ABOUT ANDREA
Photography and graphic design have always been a part of my life--ever since my parents gave me my first camera in elementary school and my dad brought home our Apple IIe and I fell in love with all the possibilities that different fonts brought to my life.
In college I decided to become a teacher, and was lucky enough to land a job teaching Photojournalism. For the 22 years I have taught, I have thrived being in the classroom. There's so much to be learned from my students--sometimes they teach me more than I do them, I think.
Now, in addition to teaching those things in high school, I'm practicing what I preach and doing the thing I love as a second career.
When I shoot I try to remember a few bits of wisdom passed on by my photo gods:
1. "The best camera is the one you have in your hand." ~Grimm
2. "A good photograph is knowing where to stand." ~Ansel
3. "Look for the pretty light." ~? (someone I'm sure...or maybe I'm paraphrasing ALL great photographers, EVER)
That being said, sometimes a picture is not about the quality or direction of light cast but about the light shed on a subject because someone was there to take the picture. ~Schlepp
